Recently I have been having some problems with using the college's internet connection.  I am the only one experiencing these problems and I have not had these problems in the past.  My major problems are:

VERY VERY slow upload speed (durring test).
Somewhat  slow download speed (durring test).
Problems with using Diablo II (my main problem).  When using Diablo II, I will get 30-70 ping for a few minutes, then I will get 4000-5000 ping spikes.  Sometimes I will not beable to connect at all, sometimes it takes 10-30 seconds, and other times it is so redicusly fast that I never see the "connecting" screen. I am the only one that I know of on campus or Battle.net with these problems.

Some Info:
I'm running Windows XP Pro.
When the internet DID work correctly, I got up to 8 Mbps download and 6 Mbps upload
Currently I get 2.5 Mbps download and 45 Kbs (not Mbs).
I am not running any tweak programs.
I just scanned for spyware and viruses.
I have no software firewalls (but the college itself has firewalls).
I have the latest microsoft updates.

Using tracert on testmy.net versus battle.net.  Remember, I'm the only one with this kind of problem on battle.net, so it's not the site that is the problem.

hey LordTerror and welcome to the forum Smile

Im almost sure its a Hardware problem with your Network card or your Network cable.

But try updating to the latest drivers and also try disable QoS packet scheduler.

to do that, on your desktop right click on my network (or something like that, i got a swedish version so its other names) choose properties.

right click on your local area network and choose properties, uncheck QoS Packet Sheduler and click ok.

you can also set duplex mode manual, sometimes autosense dosent work at all, set it to 100 Mbit full duplex.

quote from www.dslnuts.com

"HOW TO SET THE PROPER NIC DUPLEX SETTINGS:

Windows 2000 or XP: to change to half-duplex:

* Open Control Panel.
* Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.
* Identify the icon for your cable modem connection: usually Local Area Connection.
* Right-click that icon and select Properties.
* Under the ethernet adapter icon, click the button Configure.
* Click the tab Advanced to bring it to the front:
* In the Property box, the property name to be selected varies according to model of ethernet card. Examples are: Network Link Selection, Media Type, Connection Type, Duplex Mode, or any similarly-named property which can have Values looking like Auto-Negotiation, or 10BT, or 10BaseT.
* In the Value box, select a value which either (a) explicitly says half-duplex or semi-duplex, or (b) at least does not say full-duplex [e.g. 10BaseT on its own is OK]. If there is a choice between 10 and 100 with half-duplex, choose the 10. Do not choose 10Base5, 10Base2, or AUI.
* Click OK to exit the Adapter settings.
* Click OK to exit the Connection properties."

good luck

To prevent confusion, it's "My computer" in english. Also, you should set it to 100 full duplex if you're in a network, and 10 half duplex when going from the network card straight to your modem.

Hello fellow D2 player Smile
I no longer play on baal.net. because of the lag. Try a different realm, like Europe instead of USwest or east. If the lag persists, try playing offline, since the lag won't disappear soon with all the botting around.

I forgot i use the "classic desktop style"  Laughing
but if you go here..

* Open Control Panel.
* Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.
* Identify the icon for your cable modem connection: usually Local Area Connection.

you will find your LAN.

also i recommended him to use 100 Mbit full duplex, cos he probl on LAN and do not connect to a cablemodem at hes college.

I quoted how to set the duplex mode, not what he suppose to use i had already stated that.

Edit: I found the correct name in English, its "My Network Places" not "My Computer"  wink

I have tried everything.  Unforunatly, other people in the campus are now also having the same problem as I am.  It seems that the college changed the upload cap from 6Mbps to 50Kbps.  Is there any way to get rid of the cap?

If there is no way to get rid of the cap, is there a way to compress the data (or something) to make the internet more efficent?

I think he means they cap the individual users to that, not the entire campus.

Each user gets 50k upload and 2500k download.  The download is decent, but the upload sucks badly.

It used to be that each user got 6000k upload and 8000k down load.

The new cap is about 1% of full upload speed and 30% of full download speed.
