After watching carefully over the holidays (yes I had time to eat alot of food and open gifts) I have observed that the dw6000 is completely controled by DirecWay based on latency.  Over the holidays (25th + 26th I was experiencing 250-150 kb a sec downloads.  So without a doubt the dw6000 is capable of greater downloads then DirecWay is letting it.   It will take a brave sacrifice of someone opening up the DirecWay modem and seeing what tweaks they can do.  Todays speeds are back to normal at 120kbs a sec

Hey there budbem!

I am 'of the same mind' as you.  Also, your speeds are exactly what mine are it seems, meaning that I hang around 1000 (give or take) day and night (even though I'm supposed to be 'up to' 1.5Mbps).  HA!

I've already had my modem apart (it just 'snaps' together ...ordinary small screwdriver will pop open the case no problem).  I'm no Electronics Technician, but I didn't see anything 'tweakable' without the aid of (perhaps) specialised equipment.  If I ever get my digicam back, I'll snap some photos for every to ponder over.  Internally, the DW6000 is made to be 'hard to access', (and it has unidentified plugs (female) that I assume are used to load data with.  So I guess the trick would be finding out what software and equipment is needed, and I'll bet that crap is closely guarded.

I've been 'eyeing' the distance slots on the Dish Feedhorn too (.98m).  There is one that places the Feedhorn about 1.5" closer, and other that will move it back several inches/centimeters.  I am tempted to set it forward ...which will probably fry my LNB.   :tongue2:  I'm getting sick of going 1/2 as fast as what I am paying for!

Cheers!

HERE is what I've been talking about.  These are my daytime speeds with DWay.  By 3:00PM they will have fallen to about 50.  This is what they've been pulling on me ever since I upgraded to their "finest and fastest" Commercial Account.  I tell ya, seeing that it cost me $1,300.00 up front (with tax of course) for the equipment, and for only $129.99 a month, you too can have such a lovely deal!

And ....if you try to send them a 'hate mail' you just get another page stating there was an "error."  It's enough to piss off The Pope!   :tongue2:

Argh!  Cheers!

2smart4u ....Oh yea, I 'hear ya', but as you say they have me under a barrel because they know I wouldn't be doing business with them if there were anything better in my area ... (if there was an alternative other than dialup, nobody in their right mind would use DirecWay right)?  :tongue2:

But hey, only 22 more months of contract to go then I can break free of them (maybe).  But what if DSL still refuses to run a wire a mere 600 feet to my home?  Shocked

I guess everyone with DirecWay's DW6000's using G4R @1202.MHz experiences the "afternoon blues" during weekdays ...yet mine most often start in the mornings around 10AM and last till about 6PM.  Othertimes, it just hangs around a steady 1000Kbps with no "roller coastering."  I have NEVER gotten a speed faster than 1088Kbps ...and that was here at testmy.net under ideal conditions.  However....

This afternoon I was downloading file after file at the usual slow pace, when suddenly a file that was coming in at like 4.49Kbps suddenly 'zapped' in instantly ...so fast that it made my main hdd 'chatter'.  (I'm talking like 10megabytes in less than a second ...honest)!  That's the second time such a thing has happened to me with this setup, and it wasn't an error because the file was in perfect shape.  That tells me these things are capable of speeds far in excess of what we are being told they are capable of (of course) ...now, if we users could just find the 'magic key' to unlock that speed throttle.....  After all, ...."there is nothing made by man that cannot be undone by man."  cool

Cheers!
