Hi Guys,
My service is so slow. Not sure what i should be doing to tweak my pc. The ISP i use is a fixed wireless service called Turboweb in the UK, they publish rates of 2Mb download and 256k upload. They get their service via Aramiska sattalite. Anyway here are my results of the test using Win XP pro:-

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 321 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 386 KB)
Download Speed is:: 39 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line:: 6 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 26.26 second(s)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=TI2O9MIV6

::::::::::.. Upload Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is: 212 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 386 KB)
Upload Speed is: 26 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line: 4 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 39.38 second(s)
Validation Link :: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=LBU5PT6IO

Please help its driving me up the wall.
Thanks
Martyn

try these tweaks

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/8237

quote "Choose the settings you desire and click Save and then Exit.
You should start with:

TCP Receive Window: 224360
Window Scaling: Yes
Time Stamping: No
Selective Acks: Yes
Path MTU Discovery: Yes
Black Hole Detection:No
Max Duplicate Acks: 3
TTL: 64
MTU: 1460

Optional numbers: (numbers others reported using with success)
TCP Receive Window: 224360, 256920, 474280, 513920
Max Duplicate Acks: 2, 3

Hi Guys,
thanks for the advice, I know how slow it is i have to live with it Sad especially wheni am paying the equivilent of $60pm for this service. I have spoken to a couple of other people on the same service today and it seems they suffer the same problems. Some days i get no service at all!!! i am beginning to wonder why i changed from dial-up. I think some serious sorting out needs to be done at my isp end as they are not offering anything near what they promise. The thing is when i first got this i was getting bang on 2mb, so they have managed to change something!!! I will keep you all posted as to what they say and see if i can sort this out.
cheers

an update......
i got hold of my WISP today, they have given me a new bridge as they have experienced problems with the one i was using. Apparently i should only be getting 1mb max even though they advertise 2mb. Their router is set to only give out upto 1mb max to each client with a 1mb bank for when the system is maxxed out. They also said it might be worth playing with the fragmentation and RTS threshold. They are currently set at 2346 and 2432, what would changing these do? and any recommendations on what to change them too?
thanks
