::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 1018 Kbps about 1 Mbps (tested with 748 KB)
Download Speed is:: 124 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line:: 18 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 8.26 second(s)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?num=252525

My signal strength is usually 97, yet today it's raining so my SS has dropped to 88.  The above test results are the fastest I've recorded todate, which proves that signal strength and speed are unrelated.  Being that I'm using a DW6000 with a .98m dish, there are essentially no 'tweaks' in use because there just aren't any that make any notable difference with my rig.

Hey ...it's not the fastest, but it ain't the slowest either.  So I can live with it until a better option comes along!

Cheers

 Smile The Reverend,
Yeah that is a great speed 4u, and its interesting that you say that speed and signal strength are not related, I certainly agree with this statement  but , for some reason it is believed by many that if the sig strength is not maxed out that this has a bad effect on speed......but you have disproved this once again....of course if one had a very low S.S it may hurt speed but usually not... all i know about signal strength is that on dsl connections with low signal strength (usally far away from CO) has to use Interleaved (error correction)  from dslmodem to default gateway to reduce packetloss.

that will give you a ping to gateway up to around 30 ms, instead of 5-10 ms, gamers hate that, and it also bring down speed. My isp has Interleaved enabled by default for xdsl, no matter if you need it or not  Laughing

So i tell them to call support and let them check signal strength and if its good, remove Interleved and use Fastpath

one guy with vdsl lowered hes ping to firsthop from 30 ms to 1 ms by calling them and use Fastpath

Unfortunely alot of ppl dosent know about this and, is stuck with poor pings and slow speed

 Smile VanBuren, yes absolutely that is very true with DSL, thanks for clarifying this, the correct statement I was making had to do with Sat connections which the Reverend has.... Smile  Smile  when 22 gauge copper gets involved its very important for all readings to be within tolerance unless its only for voice, once data is in the mix this is a major issue and thats any kind of data.... and the Interleaved are basically  repeaters.

 Smile  With all the variables I'm not sure if there would be a generic tweak for Sat.....but if its possible your the guy that can do it...... Smile  I remember when I first learned microwave transmission of telephone signals, an instructor saying to forget everything you think you know about C.O. lines.......and I thought oh great... LOL

2smart4u ....I am unable to post my upload speeds from testmy.net.  Everytime I try to "test", it locks up my IE6 so badly that only a reboot will bring me out of it.  a Ctrl-Alt-Del will allow me to kill IE6, but when I relaunch it just freezes before it can load up Google, so I have to reboot).  It has been this way since testmy.net changed over to the new site ...so I dunno exactly whatz up here.

I've tried every trick in the book to get around it, yet I believe I'm running so much security (probably Process Guard by DiamondCS), that it makes upload testing impossible.  With www.toast.net I get an average of 80Kbps on my uploads, yet remember that this account is Commercial and therefore has some kind of 256k attached to it.  (According to myDirecWay.com the upload is 540Kbps ....yeah right)!   :tongue2:

It's fast enough for my daughter to play Graal, my son to play StarWars Galaxies, and my wife and I to download simultaneously without any complaints ....so far anyway.  I DO know that it's far too slow to consider having a website ...unless it was 'pure' text ...but maybe someday.

Cheers!

 Confused Reverend ,
Thats interesting that you have to reboot, have you ever tried taking down security to prove if thats the issue, also if you take it down will it increase your download?  Points to ponder.....LOL

I am on interleaved mode which is sort of like "Safe mode" where it wont have as much funtionality but it will run better signal wise. Im pretty sure I qualify for "fast" mode but some people at my isp dont know what "fast" mode is, so I wont be trying that anytime soon. I am 10,100 feet away from the CO, but my signals are as good as someone who is 4400 feet away. I think I should be able to get fast mode.

MICROWAVE cool ....Yeah, I've stripped my machine of everything except the bare essentials yet still get the same browser behavior.  The Upload test will tie me up in knots and send me to Reboot Hell every time.  Also, even after I log in, as soon as I click on DirecWay or whatever topic I want to read about ...the dang thing switches me back to "guest" when the page changes, but if I click my 'Back' button it says "The Reverend!"  The only way around this is to wait for the scrolling topics at the top of the page to come to something I want, click on it ....THEN I'll remain "The Reverend" and not be turned back into "guest."   :huh:  This must be IE6 related only because none of my other browsers give me any trouble.  (And none of my other browsers give me additional speed either ...they're all exactly the same with this machine).

As far as speed is concerned: Even with ALL of my security progs shut down it doesn't make one iota of difference in speed or functionality, although I thought it surely would!  (In fact, if I log in via http://proxify.net (an anonymous server) ...I'll actually get better speeds.  :huh:  I guess they're running some hot hardware there (it's some place in NYC).  On the flip side, if I use www.anonymizer.com or if I launch Steganos Anonymous Pro, my speeds will drop by 200 ...more so with Steganos but it changes servers once per second ...so it's to be expected.

Cheers!
*I didn't leave that 'line-space' in the first paragraph on purpose ...I can't make the dang thing go away!  SMF hates my settings?  :tongue2:
