DirecWay Referals
«
on:
January 09, 2005, 05:11:43 AM »
I have noticed that out of all the new ISP forums I created here that DirecWay's forum by far has the most posts, I have also noticed in my stats and in my database that a large majority of the tests performed here are user host 'direcpc.com' -- and I have heard ALOT of people tell me that a tech over the phone at DirecWay told them about my site. I don't know who I need to thank over there... but thank you whoever you all are at DirecWay
Please post here and let me know if a tech support person referred you to testmy.net... DirecWay user or not :-p

I was talking with tech support about 3 days ago. I was having issues with my speed. They asked me to do some speed test using the DirecWay site. After those results they asked me to go to your site to test.. He sounded like he was very aware of your site for speed test. This was Advanced Level Support

Of course a good tech wants to find the truth so he would send a user to testmy.net for speed results, although I'm also sure this is not a directive from management to send people here. Even though it makes perfect sense 2me it still does surprise me. I'm just glad that people are getting here to try and find a way to make "their" connection as good as it can be,and we do have some people that really know how their DirecWay stuff works and should work....like The Reverend for instance, so anyway to me its just one more thing that proves that testmy.net is the best site and its all due to CA3LE GUYS hard work so we all really have him to thank.....
now I'm back to messing around with microsloth I.E. which I know is really a losing battle but I just never give up....LOL I'm just kinda stubborn I guess..........

Amen to the exceedingly long hours and hard work that has been invested by CA3LE to bring such a beneficial website to the entire Internet Community who, incidentally, are doing more than simply dropping by for Speed Tests or occasional assistance. testmy.net is getting 'rave reviews' by an increasing number of Internet 'watchers' who are 'in the know', and they are responsible for directing an increase of traffic to this website. Given the present numbers, it can only be that testmy.net will continue to grow both in popularity and numbers simply because there isn't a website with a Speed Test remotely as accurate as what can be attained by being tested here. (This too has not gone unnoticed by the Internet Community). With the growing popularity of Broadband, it is a natural development that broadband users will want to ensure they are getting the most "bang for the buck" ...and this is precisely the place to get it thanks to the high caliber of personnel who volunteer their free time and expertise so that others might enjoy the fastest possible broadband connection (or even enhanced dialup!), and the fact that none of the Moderators who bring their expertise to the Forum wish recognition of any type. Their reward is found within themselves and found in the personal knowledge of knowing that what they did "today", and everyday spent here, has assisted countless people with a myriad of troubles in a positive manner through the sharing of information or knowledge. And how can you possibly beat the price? All of this at the visitor's fingertips at absolutely NO cost to the user. Perhaps I am in error, but since I started coming to testmy.net I have not seen anyone leave with an "unsolved problem." Quite the opposite. I've seen the greatest majority fixed up and on their way in under 30 minutes. Even the non-moderators who frequent this site are every bit as willing to lend their assistance to those who arrive "clueless" and in need of assistance. I have seen them each play their part of the role that is part of "the whole" that makes this site GREAT! That speaks for itself in the unparalled kind of website that testmy.net has turned out to be. It isn't just any ole website. From my observations it is seemingly more like a large family all pulling in the same direction without the least bit of "inner-competition" or 'self-seeking' gratitudes to be found in any post.
Isn't it interesting that testmy.net started out as being little more than a "personal tool" used by CA3LE exclusively so that he could figure out how to tweak his OWN settings using superior methods. Little did he know he was creating what has parlayed itself into a growing giant of a website that major corporations are now looking to for the provision of critical data for their customers. Who? Like DirecWay, who has incorporated
www.testmy.net
into their Assistance Manuals in an effort to bring a higher QoS (Quality of Service) to their customers. Now, if you will consider that there are over 1,000 companies (and growing) out there that are using DirecWay "gear" as their base package, such as Ground Control (to name just one), you quickly discover that there are tens-of-thousands of potential users who shall eventually find their way here simply because it is the path that DirecWay has chosen to follow in the best interests of THEIR customers ...and so there you have it. It is called "success" and I can't think of anyone who deserves it more than CA3LE, the brainchild of testmy.net.
THAT is quite a 'pat on the back' I should think! Wow! The website is already overwhelmingly successful with a guaranteed package of 10's of thousands of visitors soon-to-come ...and it is not a matter of "if" ...it is just a matter of WHEN! That's exciting no matter how you choose to look at it! This place is a "Sleeping Giant" about to be woken!
Microwave
, I graciously thank you for mentioning my name with regard to DirecWay assistance-related expertise, yet I am not the one to be thanking in the least. Were it not for CA3LE I wouldn't have any reason to be here because the place wouldn't exist right? Therefore, let's pat the back of the man that has made it all possible ....CA3LE-man (my idea there!) ...and no others. My hat is off to him with a big round of applause, and I am sure I speak for everyone when I say, "Thank you sir for anything and everything you have done as you have made an unforgettable and positive impact upon countless lives, and you've allowed us to be a part of this honor while you have sat silently in the background, asking nothing for everything you have provided and continue to provide unceasingly." That is what is called "Honorable", and we stand impressed like no others because of it.
The world could use a whole lot more people like CA3LE don't you agree?
After all, wouldn't this world be a MUCH better place to live in if everyone would just leave everyone alone, and instead be involved in helping others in the manner that CA3LE has brought unto us? YES! What more can be said?
Cheers to CA3LE!
Moderators, I 'move' that we split this post so that the maximum number of viewers can be reached, yet I wish that everyone (with more time here than myself) make such a decision.

I hear ya Tbrown,
Someday soon this website is going to be an Internet Landmark ...it's just a matter of when, the irons are all in the fire. Word of mouth is the best advertising that exists, and from what I am running into all over the web, there is alot of babbling about testmy.net going on at this time ...and none of it is bad.
My installer used testmy.net too ...so it just proves that DirecWay is telling their installers to use this website (and no others). So if you have DirecWay placing all their money on this website, everyone who is marketing THEIR gear (like Ground Control) is also using the very same guidelines/standards to 'test' their setups. In fact, there are several users here that arrive from Ground Control every morning to test their speeds ...and the amount of usage is steadily increasing ...especially for DWay users. (Which is why this site is 87% DirecWay oriented ...for one).
Cheers Travis!

Great site! Tech support does indeed know you are here, this is the only place they send us to test, or at least it's the only place they have sent me! Even the techs in India know about this place, so I would gather the big wigs are telling them to refer here. Keep up the GREAT work Ca3le! And thanks for the helpful site.

the tech that hooked up my cable modem used this site.
i then used it to tweak my 98se.
now if only CA3LE can figure out where these spurious dips in speed that some people are reporting come fom before the rest of he world logs on...

but seriously, how rural are you there? i mean, costa rica should have access to sea cable/landline hookups. start your own isp, then you get all the speed you want.

Simply put, I have chosen such an out of the way place, that has two borders to The Rainforests (protected), that I have two diesel-fired generators that alternate supplying power to our finca (farm) of nearly 200 acres.
For "the needy", crops are grown and the Ticos maintain the fields, so that there will be plenty of food each year for those that have nothing to due unforeseen things, or they are the elders and just do not have the money to feed themselves. I supply the land and the seed, fertilizers, tractor(s), plus their incomes for growing the crops, etc ....and the Ticos "take care of their own" when the various crops 'come to harvest. It works out rather nicely for all concerned and leaves a warm feeling in one's heart.
No chance of ever getting broadband here and so I am a permanent user of DirecWay. All of the "great" services are located far North and on the East Coast. I am 'deep' South, heavily secluded and well over six kilometers from the nearest power lines. 20 kilometers from the nearest telephone lines (so we use Sat Phone ..which works well enough for what little we use it for). VHF Radio is more popular in my area.
This is also why we have the "monster Jeep" I was telling you of instead of a "hummer". During the Rainy Season FULL four wheel drive is an absolute must or you'll lose your vehicle under a coursing river within minutes! (A river of mud in many cases). heheh...
Costa Rica uses the Internet much like a telephone system with a countrywide Chat Programme. Only within the past 4 years has the Internet become available to the majority of Ticos, and 56k lines "rule" due to the low incomes, although it is possible to get broadband if you are close to San Jose.

During my re-point of my dish today I introduced my installer to your site. He was not aware of your site. He did surf around a bit and used a new feature of the site, member stats. Maybe he will send some more traffic this way.

In that case we all kindly thank you for spreading the word, because we depend upon "word-of-mouth" advertising exclusively! I am not being biased when I state that THIS site is indeed the most accurate speed site on the planet ...and it all started out as a utility that the owner made for himself in an effort to found out what his REAL speed was. If you'll try out everyone else, back to back at each site three times ....you will see BIG differences. But here, you will only see a slight difference between tests because it is so very refined!
So is the repointing still holding its own for you? Good SS? Good Speeds (steady). "Snappy" reaction time (considering the latency of course)?
Thanks for the info and I pray he DOES send some ppl this way. (It is odd that he was not aware of testmy.net as it is part of their training to use this site for the simple fact that it IS the most accurate ....so perhaps he is using old info. I know of alot of installers that still like to use
www.toast.com
...but that is so inaccurate it isn't funny ...but better than DirecWay's Speed test!
Cheers!

Yes I was refered to your site by a DirecWay (Supposedly) Advanced Technical Support Person. We ran multible speed test. I had upgraded from DW4000 (where I had consistent connection speeds in the 800 to 1000 range) to the DW6000 so that I could easily share my Internet access on my home network.
Day 1, 1/6 /5 After installing DW6000 I realized my speed was very slow and procededed to troubleshoot with Dway Tech Support. We disconnected from Network and connected DW6000 direct to Desktop PC, Level 1 support did the few basic checks confirmed and agreed that a 54 connection was slow and refered me to Level 2 support, We tweaked some more and I was connecting in the 300 range , level 2 support had mumbled something about "them" switching servers which might had been reason for slow connection.
Day 2, 1/9/5 Back to Dial Up Connection speeds , Some Up Grade ! Call Dway support give case # Spend 1 hour with level1 repeating everything from day 1 , move on to Level 2 and we look at the Advanced Configuration of the DW6000 all looks good to Level2 ! Level 2 tells me my consistent speeds with old DW4000 were an abonamily and that my slow connection 12 (Now less than dialup ) is acceptable. Nothing more he could do will refer to Engineering ,
Day3. 1/10/5 at 630PM I call Dway Upgrade Sales Line to try and get some help . They refer me to some case manger in Tech Support who listens to me but says he can do nothing, it is in Engineering and they will call me within 72 hrs.
Day 3. 1/10/5 at 8PM I am magiclly conecting at 400.
Today 1/13/5 I connected at 1300 !!!!
I am still waiting for Enginnering to call me !
