My goodness ....it is PATHETIC when a v90 modem "blows away" a DirecWay Commercial Account (such as mine).  My BEST speed ever has been 1088 ....yet it typically hangs out around 942Kbps. I am SUPPOSED to be getting 1.5Mbps down and 256k (enhanced) 'up'!  But ...they lied.  It cost me $1,300.00 up front to get the equipment (a DW6000 modem and .98m dish plus installation), and now I have to pay  them $129.99 monthly ...and yet a v90 blows me away?  What can I say???????

Egah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers!

No way no how you are getting 1.9Mbps on a damn 56k. No way, never, ever. It must be cached or something.

Smile But I agree something is wrong with this picture.... Smile This has been around for some time I'm just not convinced that the speed posted is accurate.....but I may be wrong.... if this is what was used I'm wondering if it somehow gave incorrect data to and from TestMy...
Cool Microwave

Compression. PeoplePC Accelerated delivers text and graphics more efficiently, using a compression technology that significantly reduces the size of web pages and page elements sent to your browser.

-  Caching. PeoplePC Accelerated retains and re-uses web pages and page elements that you have previously viewed. Your web pages will load faster the more you use PeoplePC Accelerated.

-  Persistent Connections. PeoplePC Accelerated uses techniques to manage and optimize the communication between your modem and our network of servers through a persistent connection. This eliminates the time wasted re-establishing and closing TCP/IP connections over a modem

Ok, maybe you did get that type of speed on this speed test, but that is because (like has been said) it was cached or something. When you actually download an MP3 or Video clip, youll get the typlical 3-5Kbps speed, not 234Kbps, since it isnt cached.

Uh huh.  But even if you take TWO v90s (or 92's) and "stack" them INCOMING/OUTGOING ....you aint gonna get anywhere near 1.9Mbps - - do the math, it's not possible!  Then again, there IS alot of fuss going around about these things, yet most of it is being generated by the people marketing it (in other words, it's just another marketing scheme selling something that's too good to be true).  Anything too good to be true usually is.

If it IS true, then it must be wreaking havoc on the machines that are using it.  Can you imagine the amount of CPU cycles it would require to sustain a connection like that based upon "pre-cached" and buffered info?  That would tax the h*ll out of the hardware ....to say the least!  (I think).

I dunno, I just pay the dangd bill and try to forget about it.  lol....
