::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 1143 Kbps about 1.1 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB)
Download Speed is:: 140 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line:: 20 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 7.31 second(s)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?num=252525

Up until now, the best I could do was (one time) 1088Kbps, so this is like finding buried treasure or something!  lol....  Actually, it must be a bit faster because there are two other machines active on my network.

Anyone else seeing a sudden burst from DWay?  The time is 3:14 Central Time USA.  Two hours ago I was pulling down about 400!  What happened here.....DirecWay would have a fit if they knew I was getting 80% of my 1.5Mbps!   ;)

Cheers!

That's what I am trying to figure out!  heheh...  It certainly wasn't tweaking unless DWay did something at NOC in response to my last hate-mail ...but over the last hour it's been steadily climbing with complete drop-outs now and then ....so I am assuming they are resetting my account exactly as I have asked them to do (complete with numbers ....the whole nine yards).  lol...

However, I'd sooner think it was the latter ...but of course!  ;)

yea that can be one reason, and very nice indeed  Very Happy

I seen higher DW 6000 scores, but with small testfiles thats not accurate

the 2992 KB file is very accurate in this speed Smile

Amen Rev lately my speeds have increased dramatically following a real bad period around 12/1 through 12/27/04. I usually average 650-750 download speeds so this is unreal for me! I gues all my complaining helped to 2nd level tech support?

I know that at the present time DirecWay is in the process of adding several thousand switches to their systems to accomodate the increase in customers they have walking through their doors, which has been triple what they expected so they were unprepared (meaning for their DW6000 systems ...any of them).  Eventually, they'll have obtained enough bandwidth to be able to keep everyone running at a decent speed, but for the time-being everyone is going to be seeing fluctuations of all kinds in their speeds until everyone has their own switch again.  Sometimes steadily increasing only to fall through the floor, and vice versa.  So far mine seems to be stable and averaging 1000Kbps, but dropping to as low as 50Kbps at 2PM for the past two days ....which makes it impossible to check mail let alone work this forum!  That's fine.  After all, if I had a screaming connection speed all I would do is hit my FAP limit too fast, then have to wait until I became "un-FAP'ed" ....so 1000Kbps is good enough considering all aspects of this type of Internet connection.  (But I could easily live without the danged FAP limits)!

hm, wonder how much the speed is a function of available switches and how much of users having to share the high but not unlimited bandwidth on the birds. that would also explain drops during bad atmospheric condition/high use times.

Hi resopalrabotnick,

Your thinking is "dead center."  You are talking in the neighborhood of about 35% as related to switches/speed/shared bankwidth.  As you can see if you are "sharing" a switch with several other users who (horrors) are all downloading like there is no tomorrow ....you'll fall through the floor with regard to speed.

During the periods that you experience "bursts", which happens alot for me, that simply translates "I'm on my own switch."  (And thus have full speed providing the weather is decent over me and NOC.  (It's takes some horribly bad weather to really trash your speed though.  Heavy snow will reflect your signals, and heavy rains will prevent (or can prevent) up to 88% of your upstream from getting to the bird (your transponder "radio" emitter ...whatever you wish to call it, is only using 1/2 of a watt for power!  But considering the leaps and bounds of microwave technology these days that's alot of power!

Anyway ...GOOD THINKING on your part!  Most wouldn't consider it when given the info, so I assume you have an electronics background or a "gift" for such things.   Smile

Cheers!

AHA!

Then there is no doubt you have an extensive background (and hands on) in the electronics field.  A killer combo.  I received all my training from the US Navy S.E.A.L. team (retired now).  Learned alot in between getting shot at!  lol....

Toward the end of my career with the TEAM ...we had the pleasure of working with your KSK for about a month.  Traded alot of inside info and discovered that they were treated just as rotten as we were!  lol... but that's all part of being special forces.  Nobody gets any slack!

vielen Dank for your bit of info!
