hm, interesting. am on a m$ mn-700, and every time the neighbor, apparently, fires up his wireless network, the notebook looses connectivity. i run the wpa encryption, he doesn't encrypt at all. what can i try besides changing the broadcast channel on the base?

yeah, my net name is diff, thing is it even disconnects me when he fires up. at least him firing up seems to be the only consistent event happening when my connection goes down the drain. even explicitly telling xp to reconnect the link fails. if that doesnt stop i'm gonna find out which neighbor it is, buy an old microwave and remove the magnetron, then bombard his house with it constantly, until all his electronics die. mwahahahahaha

Are there any firmware updates for the router? My USR unit used to do that and they released an update that helped to keep the signal from getting wiped out by interference.

This puppy needs firmware upgrade first.  Login and turn off the broadcasting feature.  I recommend static ip only with MAC filtering.  Some will argue that MAC filltering don't do this or that but I had the same problem and this fixed it.  I would also change the name of the router so he doesn't know what model you have, just don't put in a name like "yo momma" or you will be inviting hackers.  Microsoft has a artiicle on the exact problem your having.  You can try moving the router to another room or changing the channel.  If you don't want to change the channel it probably means your not comfortable with how it all works.  I recommend keep playing with it till your comfortable to how it works and then changing the channel will be easy.

Also limiting the DHCP to assign only ip address that is the same number of computers.. would do the same thing that static ips would do..  Mac filtering is a must along with WEP or even better WPA.. Then he will not be connecting at all..   The other thing would be to change your channel to either 1 or 11.. 6 is to generic.. most people dont bother to chage it off of that static channel..
