I contacted Comcast and they only suggested to disable my firewall. . . these are my test results with firewall  turned off!   I'm using Windows w/sp2.

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT I CAN DO TO GET BETTER SPEEDS?

i assume you have cablenut installed, open cablenut adjuster, click delete cablenut tweaks + save to registry and reboot your pc

download vanburens_cablenutsettings_2versions.zip here http://testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=1013.0

unzip it to C:\Program\Cablenut

open cablenut adjuster, in top left corner click file, click load custom settings file, browse to

C:\Program\Cablenut\vanburens_cablenut_settings_version_2\VanBurens cablenut settings Version 2\WinXP_2K_CABLE_DSL\MSS1460

dubbleclick on Cable & DSL 3000 384.ccs ( assume your upload cap is 384) if its 256 then choose Cable & DSL 3000 256.ccs

now click save to registry and reboot again

try speed and post result

good luck

I can't believe I didn't think of this before.  On my Comcast HSC -  Motorola SURFboard SB5120 USB Cable - it has both USB and Ethernet.  Well, I unpluged the USB and pluged in the Ethernet cable to my on-board adapter and OMG - I'm 24 times faster!

Here's the speeds with USB:
Pinging forum.abit-usa.com [65.123.7.5] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 65.123.7.5: bytes=32 time=48ms TTL=51
Reply from 65.123.7.5: bytes=32 time=56ms TTL=51
Reply from 65.123.7.5: bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=51
Reply from 65.123.7.5: bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=51

Ping statistics for 65.123.7.5:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 40ms, Maximum = 56ms, Average = 46ms

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 429 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 386 KB)
Download Speed is:: 52 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line:: 8 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 19.69 second(s)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=ICQVH7DAW
::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 342 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 1013 KB)
Download Speed is:: 42 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line:: 6 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 24.38 second(s)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=17DRQ9IAJ

Here's the speed difference plugged into the Ethernet:
::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 1666 Kbps about 1.7 Mbps (tested with 1013 KB)
Download Speed is:: 203 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line:: 30 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 5.04 second(s)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=F6E9348O7

Pinging testmy.net [67.19.36.6] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=78ms TTL=49
Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=49
Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=77ms TTL=49
Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=49

Ping statistics for 67.19.36.6:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 76ms, Maximum = 78ms, Average = 76ms

Now, I'll start messing with Cablenut to get the BEST setting.

Hope this is the start to helping anyone else . . . GO ETHERNET!! :haha: - OH, it is after you post...

sideline: how do you get WYSWYG editor going in this forum?

THANKS -  I know I must have looked desperate posting all over the place . . . that's because I was. lol  anyway, I'll get back when I get some Cablenut Tweaks done.
                              I was pretty depressed when I came here and saw how bad my speeds where.  But, you know, I'm glad I did. . . I probably would just be firing off in some Comcast live-chat. . . wondering if I should switch to DSL.  I feel alot better, now - THANKS

Latest test:

Test 146000 byte download
 Actual data bytes sent: 146000
Actual data packets: 100
Max packet sent (MTU): 1500
Max packet recd (MTU): 1500
Retransmitted data packets: 0
sacks you sent: 0
pushed data pkts: 1
data transmit time: 0.667 secs
our max idletime: 88.6 ms
transfer rate: 152077 bytes/sec
transfer rate: 1216 kbits/sec
This is not a speed test!
transfer efficiency: 100%

Your connection is: 2432 Kbps      (about 2.4 Mbps)
You downloaded at: 297 kB/s
Your TRuSPEED™: ^info^ 2602 Kbps :: 318 kB/s (7% overhead factored)
Bottom Line: You are running: 43 times faster than 56K and can download 1 megabyte in 3.45 second(s)

I'm going to download the latest version of Cablenut . . . mine looks to be quite old.
