Recently I just removed my mcafee internet security program and decided to run a quick speed test to see if there was a difference.  To my suprise my download jumped 1000Kbps.  From around 3000-3400 all the way to 4300-4400.  What a difference.  And I'm only on the 4000/384 package with a few cablenut and tcp tweaks.

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Download Connection is:: 4437 Kbps about 4.44 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB)
Download Speed is:: 542 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (Server 1)
Test Time:: 2006/08/30 - 1:53pm
Bottom Line:: 77X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 1.89 sec
Tested from a 5983 kB file and took 11.047 seconds to complete
Download Diagnosis:: Looks Great : 13.33 % faster than the average for host (adelphia.net)
