Hi there Mr. SatGuy and welcome to testmy.net

I see you are so very new you have neither been applauded nor smitten, so I have given you an applaud sheerly for showing up!  TY!  Thanks also for posting your speeds so that I could have a peek along with the others.  I dare say that since you are using a DW6000, if you browse through this DirecWay Forum you will find everything you need to test out, one by one, to get your speed maxed out.  I am willing to bet you can add to what you already have by at least 200Fbps (and keeps testing using the 2992 test because it is the most accurate)!

First thing to to, just to get your started and if you are using IE5 or 6, it to go to Tools ----->Internet Options -----> Connections ----->LAN Setting and put a check in both proxy boxes.  Now, click on the Advanced button and make sure it says 192.168.0.1 and that it is set for Port 87.  Now, at the bottom, if it doesn't already have it, cut and paste the following into your Exceptions 'box':

DirecWaysupport.com;192.168.0.*     If you are using a router and know the 192 number for it, add a semicolon and then that number with no spaces.  Now just "Okay" your way back out, close the browser then fire it back up again and run another speed test.  I think you'll find it is a bit faster (unless it is very very busy), plus your browser will be "smoother" and much more stable.  If not, just return it back to as it was!

As always, before you do that you may wish to make a System Restore Point if yu are using XP home or pro .....never hurts!  You should be able to get into the 1100's or maybe up into the 1350's if you have a good satellite site and decent Signal Strength (but the SS has NOTHING to do with speed ...it only affects the quality of your "beam" and reduces dropped packets and all that good stuff.

The entire forum is full of pretty good stuff that has been tested to death and is what everyone is presently running untl something better comes down the road.  You may wish to try TCP Optimizer.  It's easy to find in the Forum and another good one to use JUST TO SET ON SETTING is Dr. TCP ...launch it then make it say "Time Stamping"  YES  and apply it to whatever is available (detected) in the box ...such as your NIC Card if you are running a LAN, otherwise it applies to whatever is listed in the box that defaults to an MTU of 1500 as soon as selected (you'll see!) ----and that will help your browser deal with latency issues that nothing else can do.

With TCP Optimzer, set it to "EXTREME" and keep an MTU of 1500, then just progress through each 'tab' (self-explanatory).  Before you start, clik on FILE then select the "Back Up Current Settings" just in case it trashes something.  TCP Optimzer is working best for 90% of all users.  DO NOT USE CABLENUT EVER!  heheh...Also, you only want the Dr. TCP for the reason of turning on Time Stamping ....the rest is best left at default (there are several places in this forum where I have described the settings in detail and so you won't have any trouble figuring out what does what in a hurry!

Hey!  Let me know how matters work out and if you hit a nasty snag don't be afraid to e-mail me or leave another post!  You are always welcome!

Cheers!

;) The Reverend

Thanks Rev I will check those out and see what i can do.

I do have a concern about my SS.  My installer could only get it to peak at about 60.  Since then it has been in the 50's and when it rains it goes to the 30's.  I ask him if that was the best he could do, and he said yes because of the transponder that DirecWay has me on.  Does that sound right to you??

Let me know at your convenience.

No it doesn't.  Please sort through the DirecWay Posts I have made and you will find one that tells you exactly how to do your own "tweaking" or how to "point up" a dish.  You can get far higher SS's than that!  I would guess around 85 with lows of the mid-40's.  If you are using a .98dish like me, then you can get a 97 no problem, and ruing rains it will only drop to a 91 ....89 was my lower ever and that was a Costa Rica gulley washer!  lol

Lemme know and don't be afraid to knock on my door!  TY
