Hey everybody,  I just got my DirecWay installed today.  So far so good except for secure sites.  I have tried everything that ya'll have said do.  Not working.  If anyone can get into secure sites using IE, please let me know how you did it.  I can't even update Windows from Microsoft.com::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 907 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB)
Download Speed is:: 111 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line:: 16 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 9.23 second(s)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=A4BH1XT26
.  Here are my speeds.

Hi seabee and welcome to testmy.net!

Say, if you are an ex-SeaBee would ya believe I am a retired S.E.A.L.?  heheh..small world if so.  Your speeds are lacking a bit, by then again, since you have a new account it could be a matter of not being fully in the system at NOC (or perhaps it just needs some really fine tuning)?

I DO have some (well, one) trick that may help you get into Secure Sites (https right?)   I have posted this for the others having probs but they have not posted back yet, so it is a  "I DON'T KNOW" kind of deal.

In IE  go to Tools, -------->Internet Options-------------->Security Tab ----------Then Click on Trusted Sites ------------>Then Cick on the SITES button and enter the URL(s) of the site(s) you wish to access.  "Okay" your way back out, reboot to get it into your Registry, then go for it while on bended knee.

(Oh...make sure that box is CHECKED in there where the https entries are)!

Now, if that backfires, just uncheck the box I said to make sure was checked, OKAY your way out, close browser then reopen and on bended knee try again.  If that doesn't work then the problem is simply something wrong at NOC for DirecWay because we have tried everything that exists on God's Green Earth to no avail.  What I have just told you is the very latest that I came up with as a last ditch effort.  (YOU WILL ALSO FIND MORE TIPS ON THIS FORUM THAT I HAVE SUGGESTED SO LOOK AROUND.  One may work for you)....but don't get yur hopes up.  Smile

THere is a wealth of informatin posted that I warrant WILL jack up your speed.  It is just a matter of finding out what works for your machine ...and please remember that right now DirecWay is conducting all kinds of tests to mess their customers up as much as possible, so what works today may be worthless tomorrow.  (That why this forum exists)!  Smile

Good Luck, feel free to repost and I'll be with you as soon as possible, or IM or e-mail me.  No matter to me, what ever yu like is fine.

Cheers, and once again welcome to the forum!

The Reverend

*For the most accurate speed test, please use the 2992 file!  Thanks!

Also, seeing that you can't update Windows from MS, I take that to mean that you can't install the SP2 update?    No worries there as I have a small book on things that can mess you up when trying.  (And I have over 200CDs given to me by MS if you would like to have one.  I live in Costa Rica but my stateside church is in North Carolina.  They ship for me since it is faster and cheaper from there ....usually.  (Can't ship overseas though ..or at least I can't ship to the Asian Continent yet.  Stupid laws pertaining to that CD prevent me from doing it but I do not know the specifics or care.

Let me know when you are ready and we'll go for it.  I most usually around with no "set" hours.

Cheers again!

The Reverend  ;)

Thanks for the reply reverend.  Yes, I was a seabee for eight years.  I also live in  NC.  I think i already have tried the speed tweaks, like checking both boxes, but thats it.

Download Speed is:: 85 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line:: 12 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 12.05 second(s)

Oh!  Hey, give it a day or two because they are screwing around with that bird and so there is nothing we can do on this end that would be of any good.  Sorry for the wait, but I have no control over their idiots at the Level III who should be in the room to begin with.  Right now, you are amoung about 12,000 customers running the same speed.  The other half are getting awesome speeds over 1.3Mpbs (average).  I'll let you know when things change, or pls let me know asap when you observe a change for the better.

Since you have applied all tweaks, did you also download and install TCP Optimizer PLUS Dr. TCP only to turn Time Stamping on?  I've included them (attached) to save you at bit of searching.

Here are the most successful settings for Dr. TCP:

TCP Receive Window  0
Window Scaling  No
Time Stamping  Yes!  (helps with latency)
Selective Acks  Yes
Dial Up (RAS) MTU (el blanko)
Path MTU Discovery   YES
Black Hole Detection  NO
Max Duplicate ACKs  2!!!!
TTL   64

Adapter Settings should be for whatever device is listed in that box that is listed.  If you have a LAN and Router, use your NIC.  IF not, use whatever it detected, set the MTU to 1500 and SAVE wherever your like the exit.  Leave that in your machine no matter what.

-----------------------------------------------------

For TCP Optimiser (from Speed Guide)  <---has more toys!

First, click on FILE, then select "Backup Current Settings" just in case you get dusted....

On the mid-line of choices, set it to Extreme
In the Netowkr Adapter Selection, most likely your NIC will be displayed and that's what ya want
Everything should be pretty much ghosted when set to Extreme
Set the lower choice to Optimal Settings
Under the MTU, you can let it check for you by clicking on the start, but ALL of DWay uses an MTU of 1500 for DW6000s especially (some 4000s are better off with 1460 or 1480.
On the Latency/Ping tab, "modify" it so that your favorite haunts are listed - - plus www.google.com and www.cnn.com  this will give you an excellent number to reference for your config!!!!
Double check to make sure it is still set to Optimal Settings, Apply Changes, then reboot that puppy, get on bended knee and pray for the best when you test again.  You SHOULD see an increase, but if not, it will get better over the next very few days.  If not?  Dig me up and we'll take that sucker apart. C4 ....everything.  Smile

Cheers!
