Just tried to implement this IE tweak and so far all I can get is "Cannot find server" messages from IE
Does this work for anyone else?

Welcome aboard there Devolt!! Pleased to have you here!
Why yes, that is the ONLY tweak you want to ensure you have on when you are using an IE browser with a DW6000 modem, and I checked that link and everything is correct, so you must have "Automatically Detect" 'ticked'? maybe?????
If nothing else, try unchecking them (or is that how you got here? lol Sometimes in VERY rare instances they won't work due to other tweaking in the Registry, but dang, I've never seen it NOT work with a DirecWay system. It gives you a speed boost of approx 200Kbps....
Let me know a bit more about what you are sitting on there...must be an easy fix....
Cheers!

Nope, still not working.
When I try to make the changes and then browse to a site, IE tells me on the bottom left corner, "Connecting to site 192.168.0.1." and then I just get the page cant be displayed error.
Here are some screenshots of how I configured the proxy:

First welcome to the site I hope you enjoy....
;) Your port says 83 in your proxy setting, the example uses 87 why the difference?? Did I miss something? Try setting value the same (port 87) and let us know.....good luck

Affirmative. Port 83 will only work with a few DW4020 and some 4000s now. If Port 87 doesn't get you running, you MIGHT get a better response on port 86 or 85, but I do believe that you will "fly low" with Port 87 in there my friend.

You guys rock!
That's wierd, I must have read that 83 somewhere else and didnt realize it was for the 4000's.. DOH!
Thanks again, going to be doing some extensive testing now that I've tweaked IE and FF, and I'll post the results later.

Yeah, that would be a problem! I use port 83 on my DW4000. I can't remember where I got that tweak from...

No worries Aubrey,
Welcome to the Forum!!! Listen, I get an average of 20 or 30 e-mails a week with people still using 80 as a Port!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And DirecWay support didn't tell them to change it.

If I'm understanding your question correctly once you have your proxy set up it doesn't matter what browser you are using... if its working OK in IE it will also work in FF, although I have seen many ppl write that DirecWay is set up to work with IE, but let us know maybe yours will be OK and work the same. As you know Sats kinda change the rules.... LOL

Interesting. I thought you would have to set it up for both browsers.
But what my question REALLY is:
If you look at the bottom of this page, where it has the Mozilla user instructions,
http://www.broadbandreports.com/faq/8522
...you will see it says
"Type in about:config as the URL in your browser's address window.
Scroll down to network.proxy.http. Enter the LAN IP of your DW6000. "
Is the LAN IP just
192.168.0.1
by default for all Dway users, or do I have a unique one for MY dw6000???
(Sorry I'm so clueless, lol...)

Devolt ,
Isn't this the same way you have IE setup?... Let me know OK?.. And have you tried using the FF browser and if so is it working the same..... I may be wrong but the way I understand this it is only to help with DNS, which of course can speed up places you have visited.....

Hi Microwave,
Yeah, I did setup IE the same way, but didn't give it too much thought, as I never use it and just wanted to see how it compares to FF.
With FF, using the proxy does seem to speed up sites that you've already been to slightly. It's not a gigantic difference, but probably worth doing anyways. (Every little bit helps with these friggin satellites, right?
)
Btw, the only difference in speed between IE and FF is when it comes to downloading, IE is significantly faster. However, I think Firefox renders html faster so it comes out like IE loads images faster, and FF loads the text faster.
That seems to be my experience anyways. I know the Rev would love to argue with me, lol.
