thanxz guys, but not new here, and to answer VB's questions, first here's upload test

::::::::::.. Upload Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 322 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 579 KB)
Upload Speed is:: 39 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Test Time:: Thu Jan 27th 2005 7:54 AM MST
Bottom Line:: 6X faster than 56K 1MB download in 26.26 sec
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=Z9ADNWT0F

as to tweaks, here's the funny(?) thing, i'm one of those tweaking fools, always tweaking around to find more, and have tried all the programs, done all the manual tweaks to the registry, messed around with QOS, made up a big chart, listing settings, tweaks and scores.  for the most part, CableNut seemed to be the best tweaking program, but i found that by using cablenut, and then adjust the defaultreceivewindow i could get better connection and faster speeds than if i used the cablenut ccs files.

recently Comcast upgraded in our area, from 3000/284 to 4000/384 and i ran the tests again, and again, and tweaked some more, then yesterday i removed all the tweaks, used the default windows xp settings, and these are the scores.

cool Smile

the good thing whith the ccs files is that you can tweak upload aswell, but for a 384 Kbps windows deafult is enough

win XP has a very good TCP stack, if you run your NIC in 100 Mbps you will have a RWIN by default of 64240 with a MSS of 1460

if your NIC is in 10 Mbps mode you will only get a RWIN of 17520

thats means alot to the speed

im on 10 Mbps fiber and the gateway switch is set to 10 Mbps full duplex,  if i run 10 Mbps full duplex at my NIC i get around 6 Mbps both ways at a speedtest 25 ms away fro me.

But if i use a RWIN of 64240 i get a speed of 9 Mbps down and 8.5 Mbps up,

but i made some custom file with cablenut and reach my cap now, 9,5 Mbps up and down in TCP.

also this overseas, i live in Sweden btw

Microwave,

i like Comcast, but before that only a 56k, so anything would be better than what i had!  besides that my son works for Comcast and even though i don't get any special discounts, he wouldn't understand if i went with some thing else.  i have the full Comcast package with cable tv/broadband, so Comcast is good, especially with the latest upgrades.  i think the broadband runs around 44 a month.

i visit this site daily, and seldom post unless i have some thing to say, and that's not often.

Van Buren,

Sweden, kewl !

p.s.  download is more important to me than the upload speed as i seldom have anything to upload and if i do it is either text or pics, and that happens fast enough for me.  but the downloads, man, remember those days of downloading a driver file, or ms updates and it would take all day, now it's seonds, or a minute or two, that's what i like!

I could download for days straight if needed, since i dont shut off the comp anyhow.. But upload @ 40 kbs is embarrassing.

there is a diff between 400 KByte/ s and 400 Kbps (bits per second )

8 bit = 1 byte

yea, i know that, but both test places report upload scores as kB/s, not Kb?

edit:  My "bad" i read it wrong at dsl reports, sorry bout that, but anyway, is my upload speed way slow for Comcast, as i said before, never really paid much attention to it, never tested it and when it was a combo upload/download test i never really looked at and paid attention to the upload scores, till now.

is i slowwwww ???
