According to Aviation Week, the panel found that on at least two occasions astronauts flew after doctors and fellow astronauts had warned that they were intoxicated and posed a flight-safety risk.

seeing as bits keep falling off on launch you gotta be a bit tipsy to go up in that thing.

and a 12 hour rule? BS! go on a proper bender and you're still drunk when it comes time to light the candle.

If it's not OK to get drunk before you strap your rear to a rocket that has at least once blown up on takeoff & is on auto-pilot anyway .When is it ?

k...i've noticed this before in some articles...why when they r reporting one issue they suddenly jump to some barely related issue...(like in the flood article...actually the one about the two that died from fumes...i think)...

Quote
Separately, Nasa confirmed that a contractor had sabotaged a computer.

The damage to wiring in a network box - which is to be taken to the International Space Station (ISS) - was intentional and obvious, the agency said.

However, it stressed that the equipment was not essential and that astronauts' lives had not been at risk. An investigation is under way.

they don't tell til later in that story what this box is for or what it does and then come to find out that this was discovered earlier in the month...and had nothing to do with the astronaut incident...huh?

hahaha...

i have a blonde friend that talks like that too...man u have to be on ur toes to keep up with her...maybe all the reporters at the bbc news r blondes or related to my friend...

anyway...that's shameful...that they were even allowed to board...they should have to do breathalyzers, saliva drug screens and sobriety tests just moments before boarding...maybe that's why things keep falling off and these rockets keep blowing up...the drunk astronauts r pushing the wrong buttons...instead of pushing the 'go' button they hit the 'self destruct' button...they r the same color u know

uh...and i don't think it's on auto pilot until like the third stage after liftoff...the pilots have to do certain essential things...so yeh it's not okay to be drunk and fly those machines...if they r that scared then find a different job...on both of the occasions when a shuttle blew up...there were civilians on board...so maybe sobriety would have been prudent...huh?

Hell, as far as being on the space shuttle wasted, does this surprise anyone?  At all?

As for me , I don't believe a word of it , at all!  Those people are some of the most fit on the planet!

And as for the heat shield panels falling off, you gotta be kidding , those astronauts most likely have never laid there hands on them let alone had anything to do w/ making them , or installing them gheeze!

Now I know zip about putting a rocket into space , but I would be amazed , that if in the year 2007 , that one of these "astronauts" , had to do anything other than look at some S#!t, and what it's doin. The whole damn thing is a controlled automatically by programs ,  if one of those people in the cabin of that spacecraft touched anything that had to do w/ controlling it, not only would the system override them, but if it didn't , hell, the bloody thing would come crashin to the ground and fast .

Just my thoughts.

Nasa said however that it was taking the report's findings very seriously and would be launching an internal safety review.

It also proposed that astronauts should draw up their own "code of conduct".

"Ok Mike lets limit it to only 5 pints before the touch paper burns through
yah cant beat a good beer buzz on lift off "

This replaces the brain cells that I lost from dealing w/ grown people w/ an IQ level of a 3 year old during my workweek.

So I suppose I can understand.
