Quote
Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT)  has given its Windows XP operating system  -- originally set to disappear from store shelves in January 2008, one year after the release of Windows Vista -- a reprieve.

"There are some customers who need a little more time to make the switch to Windows Vista," said Mike Nash, corporate vice president, Windows management. "So we're responding to feedback we have gotten from our [original equipment manufacturer] partners that some customers will benefit by extending availability of Windows XP to June 30, 2008, instead of the planned date of January 30, 2008."

In addition, as some of the PCs shipping to emerging markets do not meet the minimum requirements to run Vista, Nash said Microsoft would extend the availability of its Windows XP Starter Edition through June 30, 2010, thereby allowing its OEMs in emerging markets "more opportunity to offer genuine Windows licenses."

Thats because there really is no advantage to switching to Vista (unless) you are hardcore gamer, and must have DirectX 10. Other than that i can't see any advatage in switching.  Wink

Now wait a second there,  whats the purpose of SP3 if XP isn't going to be on store shelves long. Some people (not me)  may want SP3 on a CD as part of XP Home or Pro  instead of a download  because they feel Microsoft have "viruses" with all their software upgrades  or they improperly install the software  and it ends up crippling their computer. I mean   wasn't SP4 of Windows 2000 on shelves long enough after XP came out back in 2001  or was it a basic download?

SP3 for XP is only going to be a compile of all of the patches upto this point. SP4 for 2000 was just a download. and sp3 for xp will probably be as well

I say let that peice of junk Microsoft calls Windows XP DIE!!! I have been running Vista Ultimate 64-bit since January 30, 2007 and I absolutely love it. I have had absolutely no viruses or spyware with Vista since I got it, unlike XP where I would get a virus at least once a month even with security software. Plus Vista is super quick, I can open Adobe Photo Shop CS3 in under 2 seconds with Vista. Mac usually takes 5-6 seconds, but they just suck at everything.

it should be the other way around, MS should let vista DIE, its such crap.

and 2 seconds to open CS3, HAHA be realistic..... My Dual Processor Quad Core Xeon Mac Pro Doesn't even open it that fast in windows or OS X. Mac's open that in about 10 - 15 seconds windows vista or xp is around 20 seconds on top end machines.

And you obviously haven't used a mac in a long time. if you did you would know that they are often better at just about everything then a windows box. Even in gaming, they are getting really close to PC's, epically since you can run anything on a mac now. (windows, or linux)

Windows is getting better but that is because they are copying just about everything from apple.

Vista isnt crap, if Macs were so good at everthing then why dont they over come and be the top computers in peoples homes.  Oh and did u know Bill Gates does own part of Apple lol.  Everybody was chicken to come up with the OS with millions of people using pcs and to make program a OS of about 50 million lines of code.  Most people that cant run Vista is because they cant afford to upgrade and there just jealous lol!!

One thing that is almost certain is that some people state that they have problems with Vista??? but for me i dont have any, dont even have to tweak it and i can get downloads speeds just like my tweaked XP box.  there are so many features that Vista has that XP doesnt.  Vista doesnt look like Fisher Price like XP always did.

You have to face it either you are going to have to upgrade and go with Vista, Vista isnt going to die and....alot most security then XP had.

yes XP will soon die out like 95 and 98 did,  XP has been out for over 5 years now.  and also if you dont like it then dont use XP or Vista.  Just like i dont use MAC's because i think they suck and yes i have used macs before.  not to mention there not like a PC you cant just get a motherboard from anywhere and build a MAC, there way over priced.

I have my own Computer Repair shop and I have seen all the good things Vista has improved on over XP.  It just keeps getting better.

Vista is a huge improvement over XP, and I like it and hate it, because as a IT manager it makes my life easier on some places, but makes it harder in others.

The security is the best thing of vista it is far more secure, They did the right thing in stealing Apples/Linux's security. The password authentication is a great addition, but they implemented like a 5 year old would. You can't change your time with out entering your password.

Also taking transparencies from OS X was a good thing. They did it alittle too much, bit its much better the the XP fisher Price UI

Not being able to just go and get a motherboard and build a mac is a good and bad thing. yea it would be nice to build one. But when apple control every thing from the hardware to the OS, its much easier to build one and they can make it more secure and reliable. And you may pay alittle more but you end up getting more in the long run. And often you pay less, Gateways new "one" all in one costs more but you get less hardware wise.

Ive always built my PC's I have never bought one, and I still do. But with a mac I always know it will turn on and work.

And the one time i need to call them for support i was able to understand the guy on the other end.  grin
