I've got a Quaker parrot about 2 and a half months old and he just chatters up a storm. He says Hello, What are you doin, Kiwi(his name), then he imitates lots of sounds. He's a little mess.

got a picture??...i can't take a picture of my kerry, he can't come out of the cage...won't come out of the cage...if u force him he actually has fits...looks like seizures and then he can't talk for days...seems like he forgets how...probably been in this same cage his whole life...but he's very happy inside...will come up to the side and give kisses (even licks u with his little birdie tongue). a few years ago when i moved i wanted him to have a new home too so i bought this nice cage and i figured he'd freak for a few and no big deal...well he seized over and over off and on for an hour...so i put him back in his old cage...geeze some people's kids...just can't make 'em happy.

Hi tdawnaz,

I raise parrots.  What you describe is called "cage bound"  Parrots that are never left out are afraid to leave their comfort zone, the cage.  You might want to try
to just leave the cage door open at all times and start putting some of his favorite foods out of the cage pinned to the door or on top and eventually he may come out.  Never force him out, that just adds to  his psychosis.  It would be healthier for him to come out and even fly around if he has wings once a day at least. If he's afraid of the door being opened, just start out with it being cracked a little and then more and more.  This will take time, baby steps at first. I had a Moluccan the same way, and after awhile, she was able to enjoy the outside large aviary.
good luck!  try it.

yeh i used to have a friend that raised cockatiels (she moved) that suggested the same thing...and we tried but to no avail...even put him in a room by himself...with a camera rolling...never even went near the door...we did this numerous times over the course of weeks...the people that had him before me said he was about 5yrs and they had had him since he was a baby...but they never really handled him...

he's very social...and he has a very large cage...and does his own "exercises" takes baths...but he's just not interested in coming out...he's happy where he is i guess...i'll try again...but at approx 17yrs old, chances r that he's just set in his ways...when he leaves me...i do plan on getting an african grey...what do u think of them? any suggestions?
