OINCIANA, Fla. -- A teenager was arrested in Osceola County and charged with raping and killing a 99-year-old woman inside a Poinciana home.

Quote
Detectives said they believe Edith Mecalla, who was a mother of 11 and a grandmother of 50, was targeted by Moise O. Opont, 17, at her home.

Opont raped and murdered her Sunday before the victim's granddaughter spotted him and he ran out the home's back door, investigators said.

Opont was charged Thursday. The boy's father, Rev. Richard Opont, spoke with Local 6 about the incident.

"My defense is in God's hands," Opont said. "Every day, I teach my family the same thing."

"We expect people to die," the victim's granddaughter, Michelle Smith, said on Wednesday. "It is a part of life. But to go in this violent manner at this stage in your life, that is the part that hurts the most. She is 99 years old. You could see she is old and lying there. Why would you do this?"

Police did not give a cause of death in the case.

Neighbors said they are afraid for their lives after the crime.

"You just don't feel safe out here," neighbor Karen Montefusco said. "I don't know anybody who feels safe out here."

Sorry for those who may not like his story, posted here, but I don't like the story at all, and I feel this person should be put to death if proven guilty! No waiting no nothing, but death by electrocution!

Unfortuanately he most likely will not feel as much pain as she did. They never get treated equally. To me that is unfair. Hopefully he will get his by bubba. All I can hope for at this point. Maybe they'll even break off a broom handle in there for him.

I wonder why I like the death penalty?  knuppel2

OK then, whats you suggestion ?

Don't bail on this one, anyone w/ that kind of opinion must have some alternative idealisms to deal w/ such an offender of human faith!

personally i believe that putting someone to death for their crime let's them off too easy...first of all...if there any kind of sexual assault or rape involved...then dude first needs to be castrated...and his penis amputated (and yes that is possible and does happen sometimes for medical necessity)...then he needs to spend the rest of his natural life in lockdown pissin like a girl (with no possibility of parole or ever seeing the light of day again...okay give him a ray thru a window the size of soup can)...if a child is involved then he needs to be in lockdown with bubba as his roommate...
but seriously...if people committing sexual crimes that end in death for their victims thought that they could loose all their best friends...i think they would think twice...

this crap of treating them humanely...and ending their life painlessly for what they did is just wrong...why should they get off so easy??

the death penalty is wrong and it doesn't deter crime on any level...insane people don't care and welcome the easy death...

Yep, more like in the middle east. One of the few things I agree with them on. Steal lose a finger. Well except maybe on the stoned for out of marriage sex. But I do feel some of it should be implimented.

Steal*chop off one hand each time.
Quote
Executions are usually by hanging, although stoning is also sentenced. For the latter, the condemned is wrapped in a white shroud and buried (women up to their arm pits and men up to the waist), a load of stones is placed at the site, and government personnel --and in some cases plain citizens-- carry out the sentence.
Now would stoning fit the bill momma? It certainly is painful, I think  Question oh so nerdly!
http://ipsnews.net/new_focus/deathpenalty/columnsdeath2.asp

Stoning woud certainly deter me.

nope...the pain from any death sentence only lasts tile ur dead...life alone with only a small beam of light for all ur days...and always having to look at the place where ur jewels and rocket used to be and remembering why they aren't there anymore...now that would be excruciating...oh the wound would heal...but the emotional wound and pain and loss would be there til u die naturally just like the emotional wound and pain and loss the family of their victim (s)...just think about how attached to urs u r...would u commit a crime that could cause u to loose urs...

anyway...no!!...any kind of death as a punishment is too easy...and it's really what they want...just like breir rabbit wanted brier fox to throw him in that briar patch...it was where he was born...and where he would be freed...

these r just my opinions...and a scenario that will never happen...the aclu would never stand for it...

I just do not feel like feeding them for 50 years. Or any type of free housing. Its bad enough with welfare as it is.

I still think it is better to remove the bad apples as to get them out of the bushel.

But I understand the long term pain you speak of. By the way I have a long story where you are going to. My younest sister was raped and stabbed 14 times at the tender age of 17. So I do unserstand fully. Personally, I feel punishment shoulld be  rendered by the family done wrong to. Then there would be closure and pain fitting the crime. And for my sisters, I would make sure it did not cost the court one thin dime once he was handed over.

Instead he rotts in a pen awaiting death. So not fair.

Now there would be justice. Let the family do it.  knuppel2 knuppel2 knuppel2 And I have brothers who agree and would help.  Evil or Very Mad

the 50 years of housing costs would quickly be recouped by the drop in similar crimes...fewer crimes...fewer court costs...fewer prisoners to feed in the long run...

yeh with the death penalty the saving seen is immediately...but by creating a penalty that would deter future crimes of the same nature from happening in the first place...the long term savings would be enormous...personally i would love to know that my perp was penisless...and he didn't even kill me...he just killed a little piece of me...but i don't want him dead just dis "membered" Smile if a family member was murdered i wouldn't want the killer dead...i'd want him to suffer, as i suffer...and yes, been there too...long ugly story...very close to home...so i speak from personal experience also...
