I'm not sure why it would cost that much to execute one inmate. The only thing I can figure is the housing of the inmate for 30 to 50 years then when it comes time all the red tape, the paperwork, and probably overtime comes into effect and then I could see it costing that much. And if you feel like it is important enough for you to wonder about it you could google some statistics like I did. It is very unfortunate that any of this happens...EVER! But the fact remains we have crimes we have jails and the cost to care for them is more than we should spend like it or not.

Sounds like we could direct this thread to " solution arguments " . We agree these and other offenders are sluping the tax base . The Lawers and like are filling there accounts w/ our $$$$. We are the ones who allow, or should I say look past th e details and repercussion of what we have come to believe is justice,
not!

tommie gorman ;No offense taken & I'm sorry about your sister.I'm definatly for the guilty being punished but within the law.The laws may need to be changed .If they are & families are given the right to deliver the punishment then I'm for that.My problem is with the innocent person that is convicted & this happens a lot.How do you make it back to even for that person after the family has delivered the punishment?Lets say they left the convicted innocent person alive to serve the rest of the sentence in prison.& later this person was able to prove his innocence.Does that person get to deliver punishment back to the family who punished him/her with interest? After all crimes would have been commited against him/her.
As for my defense of inmates even guilty ones not being assaulted in prison. This is the correct way to think because it is against the law for even inmates to be assaulted. It goes on because the law takes little or no action to stop it.
Lets take your 6 month sentence for example if that's OK.Say you defended yourself from assault sexual or physical & killed the assaulter.Usually you would be tried for murder & lose. The system goes against inmates that really defend themselves. That would be a terrible outcome for someone serving a 6 month sentence for a minor crime.
That is why I'm for protection of inmates from other inmates by the prison system.
If a rapist needs to be raped as part of his punishment then it needs to be written into the law & part of the punishment he is sentenced to.
The laws that protect inmates are mostly for those that are wrongly convicted so necessary.
I did have an uncle beaten to death & robbed so I have had a fairly close family member that had a violent crime commited against them. The persons that did this got a light sentence 5 years for one & 3 for the other.
So in the end I'm for the punishment given by the law.If that needs to be more severe then the laws need to be changed to that.

I could go a little bit with you there Sequoia but then what about the truly guilty. Still nothing in favor there. They simply get screwed for a few. Not sure where fair is found in there. As usual it is in favor of the guiilty, not the innocent victims. Where is their justice? I would truly love one good answer for this on.
So my sister and several others can die for what? A very few innocent? And now with DNA, hardly any innocent go to jail for nothing. Crime is really a science now. I feel the law really needs reconsidered now. You won't find to many overturned verdicts anymore with DNA on the scene. And hardly any guilty in jail.
Its a whole new world.

tommie i hate burst ur bubble on the dna thing...now don't be sad...but...there is a rare medical condition where one individual can have two distinctly different dna patterns...it's called a human chimera...definition here (i had to look it up cuz i couldn't remember exactly how it was spelled)
http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=8905
discovery health will air a couple of shows on this in november...just go to
http://health.discovery.com/tv-schedules/special.html?paid=62.4480.111185.0.0
find out exactly for ur area...but the description is the extreme...the shows have two separate stories going on one is this woman
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wtZgxsAkA3s
...she has three babies that doctors and nurses all witness her give birth to and genetically she is NOT their mother and the courts wanted to take them away...u gotta see it...i find it fascinating
anyway...bottom line is...dna isn't 100% nothing is...

What I was thinking when I said these. But compared to the old way is is a hole hell of a lot closer.
And I stil say the law now needs to much strictter now that evidence is so much closer.
I mean "The Pill is 92-99.7% effective as birth control" but it is figured to be effective enough that folks do not look otherwise. ifeel much the same on verdicts. I mean so one innocebnt person must not die so criminals have a chance to possibly go free? Andd once in prison, don't they still have the option for appeal? But I don't feel it should last 50 years. I feel there should be limits, before one says enough is enough. Somewhere there should be fairness besides catching them in the act and not having mercy on them in the first place. Meaning if I had caught him we would have one less scum bag in prison. To me I would have saved society some problems.

tommie gorman I'm not on the criminals side.I beleive in the punishment they are sentenced to .If the laws for this punishment needs to be harsher then citzens need to get their state legislatures to do this. They usually govern the punishment. The hard part would be a US Constitutional amendment to change the "cruel & unusual punishment " in the 8th amendment. That is not likely. So a harsh state punishment would eventually be found "cruel & unusual".I guess a state that wanted too could keep coming up with new ways & make each one go to the Supreme Court.
Now for DNA one of the crime shows had a human chimera case I don't remember which one.But other than these rare cases I have seen shows that showed several mistakes various labs made in DNA.Most still don't reach the level of accuracy "the Pill" does.If all the results are correct & the DNA collection also correct. Then all would be good.
Many cases still do not have DNA evidense .Check for the number of eventually overturned cases where the person convicted is later found not guilty. It will be more than you think.
We all know those that have to depend on a public defender get pretty sorry defense in most cases. You know the plead guilty & take a deal even if the person is innocent.Later in the appeals process they can usually change to a better attorney .With the tax payers picking up the tab. Many times they end up being found not guilty.
The bad about this other than an innocent being inprisoned is the guilty person has remained free & probably won't be caught.
For those truly guilty for a little fun I will suggest some punishments.
Slowly skin them alive .A square inch at a time & pouring salt on the freshly skined area.Salt fights infection & keeps them alive longer. They might even live a month.
Amputate their arms & legs let them heal. Then put them in a barrel ,force feed them,& let them suffocate in their own waste.
Or the old favorites staked on an ant hill. That usually is quicker though.
Tied up facing the sun with eyelids proped open left that way till they die.
Put in a solitary to listen to elevator musak 24/7 till they die.
Without going into it I have a problem with any sodomy on a religious basis. So I can not be for it as a punishment. But I think the others show I can be for severe punishment.
Too bad you didn't catch & kill the scum bag.In time to save your sister.
btw in Texas very few death row inmates are kept 50 years.Usually appeals run out in 10 to 12 years .

You certainly went past my area of pain for them. WOW on the sinned alive part. The DNA test is not faulty though, it sounds like poor help to me. Then that needs to be investigated. Spend a bit more to perfect that and save huge costs it sounds like to me. I still will trust the DNA tests.
And DNA testing can't be that expensive anymore. They even sent a CSI individual out for a robbery recently. So it can't be too expensive these days. Or uncommon in usage. At least not in KC MO. Not sure about the rest of the country though. Wouldn't figure it would change much state to state.

So you thought the skinned alive would deliver the ultimate punishment at least in this world anyway.I think God will deliver far worse to criminals for those that beleive in life after death.
I do agree that DNA can be accurate collected & the lab work done correctly. It is much less expensive now & that might be the reason for less competent lab techs doing the DNA test work.
Every crime will not have DNA to test.
How about this a person uses the restroom & sheds a couple of pubic hairs.A rapist just happens to pick up these hairs on his shoe. Then they come off at the crime scene & are found & tested for DNA.I would hate to be the unlucky person that happened too & be charged as an accomplice based on the DNA evidence.

In that case there would be other hairs also. So I am sure they decipher through the evidence a bit better than just one hair does it. But I get your point. But it does decrease the amount of Not guility prisoners than before. And several not guility prisoners have already been released in the recent past. So DNA is a very good thing indeed. And also proves its application is much closer to the truth. As usual god is the only all knowing.
