hey,
      Greetings. I am new here
      I was just finding ways of improving my download speeds when i found this site .
      I am from india and i have a 40 Kbps (advertised speed) connection which i get through my ethernet LAN. (very fast net is costly here in india - its getting cheaper - it will take some time to be affordable by all )  I get dl speeds of     8  Kbps (constant through out the day ) .  here is my dl test results.

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 24 Kbps about 0 Mbps (tested with 97 KB)
Download Speed is:: 3 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Test Time:: Tue Feb 15 2005 18:50:12 GMT+0530 (India Standard Time)
Bottom Line:: 0X faster than 56K 1MB download in 341.33 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 5.32 % of your hosts average (3.62)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/id-3G5J0U4W6

Here  is the speed guide anyalizer test results :

***********************************************************************************************
TCP options string = 020405b4010303030101080a000000000000000001010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 373760
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits (scale factor of 6)
Unscaled Receive Window = 46720

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of Cool
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
 64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 14950.4 Kbps (1868.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 5980.16 Kbps (747.52 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 47 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) =
Timestamps (RFC1323) = ON
Note: Timestamps add 12 bytes to the TCP header of each packet, reducing the space available for useful data.

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000
***********************************************************************************************

      i once tried tcp/ip optimizer and surprisingly i got 35 Kbps download speeds  Surprised. just to check, i went back to my older settings and it was 8 again. when  i tried the optimizer again, this time i didnt get any improvements. From that day onwards i have tried loads of tweaks , but i got no difference at all.

   Can u help me get better download speeds?
   Tell me if u need anymore info

hey hanifv and welcome to the forum Smile

i assume you have win 2000 or win XP

download and install cablenut http://testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1013.0;id=64

download this file http://testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2464.0;id=895 and unzip it to C:\Program\Cablenut

open cablenut adjuster

click delete cablenut tweaks, now all fileds must be blank

click save to registry

now go to top left corner, click file, click load custom settings file browse to C:\Program\Cablenut and dubble click on test64Kbps.ccs

now you have a few values set in adjuster, click save to registry and reboot your pc

make new speedtests

good luck

seperate Kbps and kB/s

you get 8 kB/s and thats 8 x 8,192 = 65,5 Kbps on a 40 Kbps cap thats 64 % above your cap

be happy  Very Happy
