i just got a new ethernet pci car and when i put it in and installed all driver n everything it dont want to work for my local area connection instead it tries to connect that windows 1394connection

Did you install the drivers before installing the card?

If you didnt go to device manager and unstall the hardware.. then add new hard ware and continue the process..   That is my guess why it is trying to use the firewire connection as your lan connection...

then go to the device manager and update the drivers.. XP auto detect sucks.. the drivers are old and really out of date..
