Try unplugging your modem for few seconds and plug it back in.  This will manually make your modem request settings.  This may help you get the new settings faster than waiting.  Re-Test after and let me know.

Also, you may want to tweak your connection.  It might not be optimized -- see the post in the guides section ..  >> here >> http://testmy.net/topic-1013

I'm on 5Mbps also.. check it out

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 5335 Kbps about 5.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB)
Download Speed is:: 651 kB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Test Time:: Mon Feb 21 2005 05:44:38 GMT-0700 (US Mountain Standard Time)
Bottom Line:: 95X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.57 sec
Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 64.25 % faster than the average for host (Cox.net)

Not sure what tweaks to do, I'm new to this area and could really use your help.

Iv heard that some people didnt get the new config file transfered to their modem by their ISP for some reason. You   may have to call them and ask them to upgrade you manualy.

- Windows 98

- Connecting via USB

^ Thoes are your 2 biggest problems right there. Both will cut speed in half alone.

I had no idea those 2 things reduced speed this much, I mean they do meet RR's requirements. Sad   Ok well, I'm planning on getting a new comp in a couple of months anyway.

But I still wanna try some tweaks, I did notice an increase using one of the settings in cable nut.  So maybe I just need to find a better one but im really clueless and need help

there is nothing more to do, get rid of USB and use ethernet instead

that will give you the speed your paying for

Win 98 tcp stack is not very good, but for download speed it works pretty well up to around 5 Mbps

your TCP settings seem fine
