I am running a cable line through my house, through a motorola sb5100 modem, then to a linksys wireless router, ethernet to a windows me laptop, and wireless via channel 6 to a windows 98se desktop. I am using Tweak master on both computers and the fastest I can get on the laptop is 2.9 Mbps, the fastest on the desktop is 3.0 Mbps. The 98se is a much slower pc, running a wireless connection on 54Mbps card and router, rather than ethernet. Any suggestions on rwin settings or anything else would be helpful.

Looks like right around what you should be getting, the wireless is going to be slower no matter what :-/ ~~~ I get about 3.5-4 Mpbs on my Cox connection here in phoenix (just like you have) ~~~

I do reccomend tring this tool from speedguide.net http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe

CA3LE - dude, whoever you are, thnx a lot.....i cant believe this, i though my tcp/ip settings were optimized, but after this.....just wow....i was getting constant 1.7Kbps speeds on testmy.net download test...i just cant believe it...i ran that little optimizer program and check my results out:

Your connection is: 3845 Kbps      (about 3.8 Mbps)
You downloaded at: 469 kB/sec
Your TRuSPEED™: ^info^ 4306 Kbps :: 525 kB/sec (12% overhead factored)
Bottom Line: You are running: 69 times faster than 56K and can download 1 megabyte in 2.18 second(s)

Awesome....thnx a lot again

As you can see from my speeds above, I'm more than happy with my Cox service here in S.Cal.

My question is this.I'm currently running W98SE on an "Old" Dell P-II 350 w/one of the original motorola modems that Cox provided when I 1st started my service 4 yrs ago.

If I upgrade my equipment to a new P4 2 gig PC as opposed to my old P-II 350,will it have any effects on my speeds?

you will not see anything faster because most of the modems are based on 10/100 ports.  Which means that the card it self is limited to 10/100.   cry
