Hey peoples, can I get a few people to test the newest mirror to testmy.net - http://testmy.net/o-mirror-ShaneAU. I just want to see what kind of speeds people can archive there, it has the potential to max out probably 99.9% of people's connections.

http://testmy.net/o-mirror-ShaneAU, show your results here Smile.

Thanks!   Rolling Eyes

- Shane.

It seems like the mirrors have a differant method of testing compared to the normal testmy.net server. I somehow get 600 kB/s test from the testmy.net server, which I don't think is really possible for a single download thread to an international server (I've never seen that), but to every single other mirror only about 300 kB/s (Including my own).

If I do tests locally on servers in Sydney, Australia I get 1100 kB/s, my connection is 1.2 MB/s.

as I just said in my PM to you... it is possible.  It's all in how you tune the TCP stack in Linux Wink

here is the settings I use in my /etc/sysctl.conf

Code:
## /etc/sysctl.conf

# Kernel sysctl configuration file for Red Hat Enterprise Linux

# Controls IP packet forwarding
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0

# Controls source route verification
# Default should work for all interfaces
net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter = 1
# net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter = 1
# net.ipv4.conf.lo.rp_filter = 1
# net.ipv4.conf.eth0.rp_filter = 1

# Disables IP source routing
# Default should work for all interfaces
net.ipv4.conf.default.accept_source_route = 0
# net.ipv4.conf.all.accept_source_route = 0
# net.ipv4.conf.lo.accept_source_route = 0
# net.ipv4.conf.eth0.accept_source_route = 0
# net.ipv4.conf.lo.accept_source_route = 0
# net.ipv4.conf.eth0.accept_source_route = 0

# Controls the System Request debugging functionality of the kernel
kernel.sysrq = 0

# Controls whether core dumps will append the PID to the core filename.
# Useful for debugging multi-threaded applications.
kernel.core_uses_pid = 1

Some stuff has been commented out, this is just what I have found works best with my setup... so far.  If anyone has anyone has any improvements on this please let me know Smile
