Hey guys - I have adelphia premier and I seem to be capped at 3.6-3.8 download (after upgrade and before).

I have a splitter on my cable line so that my satellite will also work - do you think this can cause the limiting? Adelphia tech support had no clue why my speeds were low and weren't too interested in trying to help either.

Thanks guys...

Each splitter will lower your signal strength by about 3 Db.  You might want to check your line levels as this may affect your speeds.

Thanks for the reply - how would I go about testing my line levels?

If you are running a motorola SurfBoard  type in the ip address : 192.168.100.1 and click on the signal tab.

For information on good signal levels, follow this link:  http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1197&print=friendly

Removed splitter - same deal.

Stuck at 3.6-3.8...Oh well (at least now I can continue to enjoy TV in my office)

Maybe I need a new modem? I have a Surfboard MB4200 - are these outdated?

My results seem to be in-spec:

Downstream SNR = 37dB
Downstream PowerLevel = 15dBmV

Upstream SNR = (not shown)
Upstream Power Leve = 44dBmV

My upstream is fine -- download still crappy Sad

Any suggestions? I appreciate it guys!

See below and try this: (Found on another forum)

My Ambit cable modem (brand name not obvious from the unit itself; IDable only via ethernet OUI 00:02:8a) has a web-based interface well-hidden. It's at address http://192.168.100.1/, but is only accessible from http://192.168.100.20/. The login is 'root', password is 'root'.

Your downstream power is pushing the envelope and could be affecting your speed.  If you have one, you could try adding another splitter to see if the downstream power level will go down a bit.  Benchmark is -8 to 8 db for good downstream power level.

cak46 is correct.
+15dBmv is pretty hot.
Definitely put the splitter back in line.
Is it a 2-way splitter? Or is it a larger one (which would help even more)
