from the house on sat. afternoon:
::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 3961 Kbps about 4 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB)
Download Speed is:: 483 kB/sec
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line:: 71 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 2.12 second(s)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=RXB7PE73K

my T-1 at work, which is wide open except for email transfers, will not score higher than 0.5Mbps inbound or out...any speed guru's have some insight on this ; could it be router/firewall settings or is the boss getting ripped off ? lol...the carrier is NAII out of New Jersey, NetVanta router, Symantec firewall & 3com switches. wink
any insights are appreciated & keep the faith!

Well with a t1 you can get fractional t1 which means you dont have to buy the full 1.5 up and down... you can get like 512kbs up/down... The other thing that might be happening is that your switches/routers are setup to limit the maximum amout of bandwidth per rj45 jack.  So you can have your servers setup to have more bandwidth than the rest of your network.  My guess is that there is something limiting the office employees from enjoying the full speed of the t1 line...  But if you are only testing at 500kbs it could be that your company has a fractional t1 line

I checked with the carrier & the bossman, indeed it is a full T-1 on the tap....
SO next i hooked up an old boat anchor Packie Bell to the pipe,but this time on the DMZ. Sure enough, it was hitting 1.3Mps instantly on the downstream...Definitly there is a throttle of some kind in or beyond the router to lose so much bandwidth.
I'm replacing the very-unfriendly NetVanta with a simpler Netgear or Cisco this week, i am sure we will see some interesting improvements  Very Happy

go with the cisco...  My guess is that there is something some where in that setup that is either causing a bottleneck or you have port throttling on somewhere... Do you have a hardware firewall? ie redbox?
