Regarding whether or not Adelphia updates firmware in cable modems, the answer, according to Adelphia, is yes they do in all cases where the modem is upgradeable.  The upgrades are done remotely via the Internet.  Adelphia said they started upgrading to DOCSIS 2.0 awhile ago, starting in California and working their way eastward.  Consequently, being a California resident, my RCA/Thomson Multimedia DCM245R modem has been updated to DOCSIS 2.0, and I couldn't use it to surf the Internet if it weren't.

I asked Adelphia if my modem could be upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 but couldn't get an answer.  I also asked about the new 10- and 15-Mbps services, but it turned out I knew more about those services than did the person to whom I was speaking.

Actually, I first posed the question about whether or not my modem had been upgraded to DOCSIS 2.0 by Adelphia using Adelphia's support chat and got NOWHERE!  So, I then went to the phone and got the information I've related here.

Any info on the 10 or 15mb services would be nice. Just so you know, docsis 3.0 isn't even done yet, so there is nos upport for it.

That's true. Here's a quote from a article I read recently regarding Adelphia and DOCSIS 3 "DOCSIS 3.0, is an emerging CableLabs spec that will use "channel bonding" techniques to boost speeds to 100 Mbps and higher. It also supports IPv6, which will give MSOs the ability to better manage their IP address pools and gain more sophisticated provisioning tools."

DOCSIS 3.0 is in the final review period, and a final spec could be ready by early 2006, according to CableLabs CTO Ralph Brown.
