btw...I just downloaded/installed Windows XP SP2 without a hitch...in fact my computer booted up quicker, and my Windows feel more snappy...though that could be all in my head Smile

for the manual download(for IT professionals for use on multiple computers, but can be used on one computer) go to http://jcxp.co.uk/ and click through the links...the download is from Microsoft...and this version is 266MB(though with these new speeds, only took 8 minutes for me)...

If you want to wait about a week...MS will release a compressed version(66MB supposedly)...though I noticed after I downloaded it, it said it was extracting...so I don't know how they'll compress it any more...

Seems to pull up fine for me(tried on all 3 of my partitions/2 harddrives)...did you scan for spyware on your computer before installing the sp2?

Smile I removed sp2 for the same reason that Swimmer did, I don't find this unusual Microsoft has articles on people having troubles with sp1. In the article it says that 2 machines with the same O.S. can have different results when using these so called fixes. The only thing that stays the same is change!!!

Well the MS Firewall is included in MS Windows XP, it just isn't turned on by default.  With SP2 after you reboot, it forces you to make a decision as to if you want it to turn on or not...It recognized NIS 2004, and said it doesn't need to turn on...

To verify you have it right-click on mycomputer -> manage -> expand services and applications(if not already) -> click on Services -> and scroll all the way to the bottom to find "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS)."  For more information on enabling this feature prior to SP2 go to: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/learnmore/icf.mspx

As for finding my history etc...I'm not so sure, I've got my system rather locked down...though it doesn't really need to be...I don't have anything to hide...
