My very 1st question is: I see there is a SATA connection and an IDE connection, do I have to plug both of them in to run a SATA harddrive because I only have the SATA cable plugged into the MB if this is the problem maybe that will solve it. So I hooked up the sata cable to the MB and to the HD and put windows xp pro corp in and went to install, it said if you have a 3rd party sata/raid drive to install press F6 now. I did so and got to the location where it told me to specify the drive. I inserted the driver disk that I got with my MB and There were like 4 selections. I tried all of them it loaded the driver started windows and asked if i wanted to install windows or press f6 for automated system recovery everytime i pressed enter there it would tell me no drive is seen. So what I tried next is I went into the SATA bios and the very 1st thing it says is; NOTICE: The number of disks is not adequate to create a RAID!!! Under all of this i says Channel: Serial_Ch0 Master WDC, Drive Name; WD800JD-75HK, Array Name; (its blank), Mode; SATA, Size (GB) 74.50, Status; Hdd. The next line says Serial_Ch1 and all the spaces are blank because I have nothing connected to that sata plug on my MB. What can I do? Thanks for reading all of this its a big project for me and I want to learn how to do it correctly!

I have an Abit AV8 Guru MB

you don't need to hook up IDE and SATA to use the drive... I think you might have just installed the wrong driver

something, possibly your BIOS, is attempting to create a RAID array, which requires at least one more hard drive... look for something about RAID arrays and make sure its disabled...

It might be possible, but it would be a ton of work... try just sticking a second hard drive in and see if you can install windows then...

Did you consider using two hard drives in this computer?  You don't necessarily need the SATA drive to be the primary drive... but I still don't fully understand your problem...

also, I've been wondering... why is this topic in Off Topic discussion?
