Finally the brainiacs at the major router co.'s seem to have a good handle on DoS attack protocols; only 3 or 4 years ago we had outrageous DoS attacks on EFNet resulting in the shutdown of at least 15 servers & almost as many permanent de-links. Undernet users know this scene all too well also.
So far this year, not 1 server has de-linked due to the packet kiddies. Gotta love technology
I've seen several products from Cisco & 3Com, some type of "D0S Filter" that installs in front of the router.
Check out TippingPoint's IPS (Intrusion Prevention System):
http://www.tippingpoint.com/index.html
prices range from $1200. to over $10,000.

junkieXL I guess this is what my ISP would need to use so they could allow their dialup accounts to ping.

I don't know too much about this myself, but I found the links that cholla provided very cool.
Here are a couple related links I found through whatis.com

Most of the people i've come across use RXBOTS to form large and complex DDOS botnets. I've seen as many as 40,000 machines compromised by these bots, and they are all controled, and operated from IRC. An RXBOT with a good working Lsass will cause alot of damage in the right hands.

I did a search I think you meant M.A.P.S. nettools 3.1 anyway I'm not on a network I have one PC. My ISP blocks ping & trace route so part of the net tools wouldn't help me.I already have software that does most of what the net tools would. Thanks anyway they might help someone.
This is a link to what I found:
