I am choosing between a couple of cards (ati 9800 pro 128 and nvidia fx 5900xt). But the main thing is that is has to be under $200.

That's not going to be easy, but I've definately heard better things about the Radeon than the Nvidia. I've heard high settings in games like D3 the fps goes to S#!t with the Nvidia. It depends, if your hardcore into gaming and like smooth running graphics, do alot of homework now. Hell, either of these cards should kick it at high detail, but that's not the case.
I have a 9600 pro and just finished Doom3 on high detail and the movie sceens were friggin awesome and the game played flawless. I also believe, your system has to compliment the card as well. You wouldn't throw a 360 Magnum in a Ford Escort now would ya? Course not, that wouldn't work too well at all.

Good luck!

i would wait a few months... the nvidia 6800GT should fall down into that price range...   Nvidia plans to use the 6800 as their base card.. so that should be sub 150... sooner than later... Rolling Eyes

Try going to newegg.com and looking at both of these cards. People post reviews and you'll get a good feel for how the cards truely run based off what people are saying about them.

Check out sites like Anandtech, and Tom's Hardware, to read reviews/look at how they perform.  These type of reviews always help me when I decide that I need to buy.

I bought the Radeon 9700 Pro for $300, and it quickly dropped in price there after.  From now on, I probably will also be spending sub-$200 on video cards.

Don't forget about PCI Express.  If you plan on upgrading your motherboard soon, then you may want to just get a PCI Express video card so that it will last longer.

9800 Pro 128 is the way to go for that price range IMO. I have this card and it rocks, it will handle anything you throw at it. Except for 3D Mark 2005 which brings the x800 series to its knees even Shocked

I think I would  go with the ati 9800 pro 128 , but I think they are both good cards for that price range and are very similar.
