Does anyone know what the average connection speed of a cable modem should be? I have a cable modem, and my results after I test are never higher than around 2.7 Mbps.....is this average, poor, or good?
     Just curious......... Very Happy

Wrong forum.

The maximum speed of a cable modem is 50 Mbps or so, minimal is 0 of course, so that makes an average of 25 Mbps. If you're not capped.

Considering your speed I'd say you're capped at 3 Mbps. You're at 90% of your advertised speed already, so it's great already. But if you want to tweak, go ahead and get faster. The 3 day average on testmy.net is about 1.3  Mbps, you're way above that.

Beware that you'll be placed on the list if you go over 3 Mbps. Twisted Evil

The average speed if you are thinking theoretically is indeed some where around 25 Mbps.

Usually the average cable user obtains some where between 2000-6000.  This depends on your plan.

The rule of thumb is to be within 90% of what you are paying for.

I would check out VanBuren's tweak topic in "Make it faster" to see if you can make it faster Smile

While that is a nice score (you're added to the list btw), it has nothing to do with this topic.
