My linux box seems to like the opera browser. This zings right along. I hope my ISP doesn't mind.

Upload on this Comcast connection remains pretty slow. The best I ever get is about 220 Kbps. I think 225 is what is advertised.
This is one i just ran now. Good thing most of what i have going up is short mail.

I am running Mandrake 10.0. I don't run MS Windows. I think that Opera works better with my set-up, in part, because I have Opera set to open 8 connections to a server with a max of 20 connections total. Since that seems to be a magic combo I need to dig around and find the right (rclocal ?) file to set the whole system to do that and see if that speeds up firefox. Seems to work to give better download speeds with opera, but the speed varries a lot more than mozilla or firefox, maybe dependant upon the phase of the moon, static electricity in my hair, the flights of migratory birds - or perhaps local traffic. Speeds seem to be better in the daytime than at night. Maybe a lot of my neighbors have a Comcast connection they tend to use at night. I don't know. The end result for me is still an average download speed that is better than i get with any other browser.
These are sownload speeds tested tonight with opera. You can see that they are up and down a bit.

...I have loved mozilla and it used to go faster than that before I loaded so many extensions on it, but it very seldom pushed 4Mps even when it was lean.
...cheers...

Don't you have to retain an ip address to keep the same computer ID on testmy?
Do you have a static IP, barleywine?

When I first started using firefox and wanted to compare it to the mozilla suite, I found this site and just got into the habit, (wow, quite a habit indeed if over 600 tests), of testing how fast the connection was running with different browsers or if the browser was slowing down when extensions were added, or, heck, how is ole Comcast doing today. Testmy seems to be, from what i have read, very accurate and dependable and I reccomend it to anyone and everyone and who might want to test their connection speed or maybe even learn a thing or two about the subject.
What you have done with this site is wonderful. When something is useful and fun and free how much better can it get?
As I recall, Comcast charges extra for a static IP and I do not have one. Since either my wife's or my computer is usually on and sharing this dynamic IP, maybe It just hasn't gotten shuffled in a while?
...cheers...
