Ive had this problem ever since my cable was installed at my new house which has been about 2 months. This is my second SB5100 modem. The problem i have is that i cannot keep constant download speeds. Signal strengh is great and i never have issues with upload speeds. I have had a brand new line installed from the box outside directly to my wall and directly to my modem. I have looked into everything possible. I came accross this yesterday and really dont know what it means or if it could be causing the problem. This is my log file for my SB5100. Notice each day i get the same exact errors its never different and there isnt a day in which these errors arnt listed. This is just part of my log file from the last few days.

ill also add there isnt any errors yet today, i had my modem and computer turned off all night and its been on for about 45minutes and my speeds are great. Im leaning toward whatever this means its causing a problem or causing a issue thats causing the problem.

i am not a motorola rep so i am not positive on the error codes but what it looks like it when your isp changes you IP address, looks like you are dyanmic, you are having connection problems..

It also looks like you ISP isnt using all of the field that the modem is looking for..

When the SW Upgrade Failed Before Download - Server not Present ... dont worry about that because the modem is getting it a different way.. I dont know why it your connection is having speed problems..

well i found out a couple things. I do have a static IP address, however the error code for the SW line is my modem isnt getting the new firmware that is getting sent to my modem. I gave up and bought a a Linksys BEFCMU10 V. 3 today and so far no issues but we will see.

Smile  lildawgryan,

I had a Motorola when I first got broad band from Cox and it often acted squirrelly (is that a word) so after a short while I got a Toshiba PCX 1100U which Cox recommended at the time and they support. I have had the Toshiba hooked up for over a year and a half without any problems,we have a Linksys at my brothers that seems to work ok....good luck and let us know how things work out:)

that is really odd... Since Cox gave you that modem as part of your package... You shouldnt have to spend more money just to get the speeds that you paid for.. Glad to hear it is working!  Linksys modems kick ass..

Well I have yet to experience any major problems with this Linksys Modem. I have it connected to my Linksys Wireless G router also. I dont know why but im located on the east coast, VA and i can never get stable speeds when running multiple speed tests on this site except very rarly. I also found that its most accurate when i run the "larger" speed test link. I love this site no doubt thought!  Very Happy  This is my result from just now, and this is the highest so far ive gotten with this linksys BEFMU10.

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 5759 Kbps about 5.8 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB)
