1. I have WinXP Home with all the updates and SP2 with the P2P fix.

2. I have optimum online, a 10000/1000 speed.

3. The tweaks were all perfect, nothing needed to be changed.

4.
::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 676 Kbps about 0.7 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)
Download Speed is:: 83 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Tue Nov 15 2005 21:04:18 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)
Bottom Line:: 12X faster than 56K 1MB download in 12.34 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 11.8 % of your hosts average (optonline.net)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/stats/id-0HzC39UTO

::::::::::.. Upload Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 143 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)
Upload Speed is:: 17 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Tue Nov 15 2005 21:06:11 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)
Bottom Line:: 3X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 60.24 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 28.37 % of your hosts average (optonline.net)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/stats/id-XVN50TMQH

Special Note: These tests were done with ZoneAlarm OFF.

9. all spyware is gone, as well as viruses.

10. I do have ZoneAlarm Antivirus installed, but there is NO WAY, no matter how much you may hate on ZA, that it causes a 90% dropoff in speed.

14. Ran CCleaner.

15. Cablenut has done nothing but reduce all my speeds in the past.

My MAIN problem is that the stupid modem continuously switches on and off (the lights do their dance, I get a "network cable unplugged" error message, and then they come back 15 seconds later, only to disappear again in 5 minutes or so.

It's especially sad that my speed is so low because not a month or two back, my speed was well into the 6000 or even 7000 range.

Also, I know my upload speed has been capped (damn OOL!), but that should not be the cause, because the speed hit at least 5000 with the cap not too long ago. This is a recent problem.

Please advise, this is bothering me oh-so-much.

Thank you!

Oh, and I just did a new test....

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 3706 Kbps about 3.7 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB)
Download Speed is:: 452 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Wed Nov 16 2005 14:38:51 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)
Bottom Line:: 66X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.27 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 64.61 % of your hosts average (optonline.net)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/stats/id-07DXL381Z

About six times better than before, but still only a little above half what I should be getting. And the problem with that is that I didn't do anything to the cable modem or anything else.

Okay here it is.

Just a side note, for Advertised kbit/s, I put 9999, since Optimum Online usually offers 10000/1000. Is this the right thing to do?

http://www.broadbandreports.com/tweakr/block:13d1ba6?service=cable&speed=9999&os=winXP&via=normal

I believe the reason it says I am unpingable is because I am running ZA.

SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer

TCP properties for IP = 69.123.140.103 ()
Browser/OS = Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.Cool Gecko/20051107 Firefox/1.5
Notes: Read the Analyzer FAQ if the above is not your IP address.
TCP options string = 020405b40103030101010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 122640
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 1 bits (scale factor of 2)
Unscaled Receive Window = 61320

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of Cool
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
 64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4905.6 Kbps (613.2 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1962.24 Kbps (245.28 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 121 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Alright, done.

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 4156 Kbps about 4.2 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB)
Download Speed is:: 507 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Fri Nov 18 2005 23:50:45 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)
Bottom Line:: 74X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.02 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 72.34 % of your hosts average (optonline.net)

Better...do you think ZA is the cause of the other 27% or so slowdown? Any other recommendations?

if your still around 4 Mbps or less, then yes i think it might be your ZA slowing ya down

2005-11-19 11:09:07 EST: 3960 / 139
Your download speed : 3960 Kbps or 495 kB/sec.
Your upload speed : 139 Kbps or 17.4 kB/sec.

....so....guess I'm saying goodbye to ZA?
